Deer Path Middle School West Reviews

DPM West has provided my children with an outstanding education and has effectively prepared them to succeed in high school. The District continues to provide incredible programming, curriculum, and facilities. The new Makerspace, Haskins Center (library), classroom lighting, furniture, and entry vestibules show their commitment to student safety, STEM learning, and keeping students engaged throughout the day. The project-based curriculum also helps prepare my children for high school and beyond by teaching them how to work in groups, collaborate, ask insightful questions, and learn how to figure out solutions vs. just answers. DPM West isn't very diverse, but the school goes to great lengths to expose the students to diverse perspectives and ideas. One of the District's key objectives is to hire and retain great teachers and they definitely do that! Overall, DPM West is an outstanding school that has helped all of my children succeed at the next level (and beyond)!

The teachers were generally kind, supportive, and well qualified. Many rooms have been renovated nicely in recent years. However, I feel that the school should be a little more lax regarding the side of the hall in which students can walk and prioritize their efforts on tackling the juuling problem, for example.
Deer Path is, overall, pretty much your average rich suburban middle school: pretty much all of the students are well-off and white, the teachers range in quality from the best people you will ever meet to the worst, the clubs activities are limited and often quite lame but sometimes very enjoyable, the Admin are pretty much the butt of everyone's jokes, the sports are too hyped for their own good, and the only good food the cafeteria serves is the cookies.

The workload is usually manageable, although it does increase drastically from 6th to 7th grade, so watch out for that. I always felt safe in school, although my friends sometimes complained that no one could be themselves without getting shoved in a locker or beaten up; I never saw that in my classmates. The performing arts program is awesome, I strongly recommend joining. Band and Theatre were two of the best things I did during my time there.
