The education in the school is great! The teachers are wonderful but it also depends on who you get but they are always willing to help if you just go to them. However, Deep Run is not that diverse and do questionable things when it comes toward race. The school struggles with racial issues terribly and when situations come to the surface they turn a blind eye. Some of the adults take the initiative to address problems, and some of the adults are irrational. But overall being in the top school does have its perks!
At surface level, Deep Run is generally for those who generally accelerate in school. The school offers many courses and extracurriculars to support student growth from all types of angles, including STEM, art, humanities, etc. The academics are some of the best in the county, but there are a few things that bothered me at Deep Run. The social circles are quite cliquey, hence making it difficult for some to find their place in the school. Especially with the school's racist reputation that others have pointed out, it isn't the safest being a POC. There's also a drug issue that's well-known among students, although I haven't found it exceptionally disturbing to the academic environment.
Deep Run High School has many amazing teachers which have been very helpful throughout the academic process and have always been good at open communication. However, there is an undeniable problem with how race and gender is treated at our school. Many times, racist incidents will be brought up to the administration, and very often (if not always), nothing is done about it. This has lead to many minority students feeling as though they are alone in their struggle and are often targets of bullying and racism. I have also seen that kids who are LGBT+ have been treated differently by people in the student body. Hopefully, bullying, racism, and unfair treatment of the LGBT+ community will be talked about and the school will address it. Unfortunately, this has not happened yet and race remains a hushed issue.
