At DCD, we believe that balance matters—in learning and life. We combine academic challenge with support; pedagogical tradition with innovation. Strong scholastics combined with outstanding arts and athletics create a program that is balanced and whole. Here, a premium is placed on both academic and emotional intelligence. Children learn who they are as diverse individuals and how to be part of something bigger. Acceptance is a given, and children find encouragement in every connection they make. It’s a community that nurtures, nudges, and gives. That’s how we grow “whole” children—and, ultimately, adults who will thrive with the intellectual and emotional capacity to contribute to their world and enjoy meaningful lives. Visit us, and you’ll get a sense of how our students learn to think creatively and critically. You’ll witness active learning with children tackling hands-on projects, collaborating, taking risks, solving problems—and, most of all, enjoying their experience.

A Focus on Public Speaking at DCD

Public speaking starts in pre-k when every child, each year performs in the class play. Delivering lines with feeling, they learn to speak up and speak out, giving even the youngest student practice speaking publicly. Presenting their work daily in class or playing a central role in an assembly in a packed auditorium, students learn to use their voice and express ideas with clarity and purpose!

Incredible school. From the moment you walk in. I recall one time someone left sticky notes throughout the building saying "you can do it", "you are awesome", "learn and grow", and so many other quotes, as a parent there for 4 years, and having seen over 24 schools in the area, as we chose the right one for your kids, in the last 7 years, this is #1!

My son has thoroughly enjoyed his experience at DCD. The teachers are caring and engaged. I can text with the teachers during the day, and my son is able to stay late doing a variety of activities (Spanish, Chess Club, piano lessons, dance) as I finish work. He is only 6 and does yoga at school! If you looking for a school that invests in the whole child, with a lot of individual attention, you should look into Dedham Country Day School.
I have been a parent at DCD for four years, now to two children, and I couldn't be happier. Although my kids are each very unique from each other, the school is still the perfect fit for each. The balance that is advertised--in art, athletics and academics-- is indeed true. Most of all, I love the community feeling and the goal that undersides all of the thoughtful pedagogy--that the fullest potential of a child is not only measured in admittance rates to the next school, but raising fulfilled 30 year-old community members who will lead happy lives and lives that give to others around them. The school feels inclusive to all regardless of town or SES background, etc. DCD is a hidden gem of a family school!
