It has been a very well experience overall. There are so many activities to become involved in create life long friendship with the other students. The teachers are mostly easy to get a long with. Some of the teaching style are hard to learn from and could benefit from a change.
In my time at Decorah, I have been welcomed and prepared for everything I have ever needed. The music and athletics programs are phenomenal, especially choir and cross country. The teachers, coaches, and administrators are amazing. Decorah urges students to get involved in many activities each season and helps students work to achieve their goals.
I was quite the odd student at the school, determined to do my own thing and work things out in a way that would feel natural to me, all I could really do was whatever I felt was best for me as my own person. There was so much more to be done in areas related to diversity, but that was just the nature of the town
I liked the Cross Country team. I have gppd resources and preparation for college with the Decorah high school. Teachers are very helpful in preparing us for college too. The sports and academics are both very strong aspects in this school and the teachers encourage the students to succeed. The school provides limited clubs but the music and arts programs are strong alongside the sports programs.
Great school, lots of different people. Everyone can do their own thing. Classes are a nice mix of people.
I would like to see more diversity and a better administration system as well as more respectful teachers and coaches.
I attended Decorah High School from 2015-2019 and I loved every second of it. The teachers help you while also challenge you. They have amazing programs in both sports and the arts. I also was involved in a ton of clubs, sports, and organizations.
All the teachers are very kind and helpful, they help you along your journey in high school. The teachers here will always be there to help you even if they are busy, they all make time for each of their students. The administration also helps students along their way with academics of any kind by providing study tables, working lunch, flextimes, and many other opportunities. Along with academics the school also provides many clubs and sports to get involved in. Every single club and/or sport are very welcoming and a great experience over all.
Decorah High School is a top tanked school in Iowa. It provides students with athletic and academic opportunities. Students are allowed to take college courses to help them achieve credit hours for college.
Decorah is a great school! In rural Iowa, it can be hard to find schools with high quality curriculum and staff, but Decorah has managed it.
The best feature of Decorah High School is the opportunity for involvement. Almost every student is involved in either a sport, fine art, or club. The staff is very involved in student success, which has resulted in many wonderful achievements. My experience at Decorah High School has definitely been a good one!
I had a great experience at Decorah High School. As a college sophomore, I am very thankful for the opportunities DHS has when it comes to taking college-prep and college credit courses. It prepared me well and has definitely lightened my load here at college.
There are very few teachers in this school, or this district in fact, that genuinely care for their students. There is no good program for students who are of higher intellect and the school does not prioritize these students at all. The district focuses on getting all students to perform well on standardized tests to make the school look good. Once students have reached this level, the district no longer focuses on helping these students.
I really love the staff at Decorah High School. They are all so willing to help anyone out. They have amazing counselors to help you get into the right classes and prepare you for college or the workforce. With the new schedule, there is also extra time for students to get caught up in classes.
I enjoyed the variety of classes I could take and the awesome teachers that taught me. I also loved that we got to have a computer of our own.
My 4 years spent at this school were pretty good. I made memories, but the majority of those come from me making them happen. The school didn’t do a good job at having many traditions, and places way too much emphasis on sports. The administration does a terrible job at prepping for college or mentioning different routes to take after graduating. They also only ever talk about Luther college and how great it is, failing to mention the outrageous cost and it not being all that prestigious. They even brought in a panel of Luther college students to talk about college life to the senior class as if there were no better options. Some teachers are game changers, and others should be fired. I would like to see the school do a better job at finding resources for students because high school years are extremely formative to the students’ mental health. I’ll miss my classmates, but I often wish I had gotten to go to a different high school for an amazing experience.
The school has its high and low areas. Personally I believe about 60% of the teachers really care for there students and want them to succeed. The non-teacher facility have a few members that really care for the students, but as a sophomore I felt a little disconnect from them. I did enjoy the vast amount of options for me, academically, extra and co curricular, and sports. The overall atmosphere is somewhat toxic. I have found a small friend group but feel that other students are not as accepting.
