DeSmet is a very open and innovative school. The entire school, faculty as well as students are accepting of all races, religions, and sexual orientation. DeSmet's mission statement is: "For the Greater Glory of God." That means that we are always putting others before ourselves. Later start times, and longer classes create a less stressful learning environment. With later start times and longer classes, school days are less stressful. Longer class time allows for a more progressive workday. Administration is average, but always improving with the time. Discipline is strict but incredibly fair, allowing students more freedom, but keeping us distinctly different from other high schools. DeSmet recently opened a Innovation Center, offering students a professional and quiet work space they can use whenever. All in all, DeSmet is a school that is consistently improving and does a good job at keeping their students in a fair and mature environment.

I have attended and have family at many of the St. Louis private schools. I do not belive that this school lacks in their faculty, administration, and faculties. I belive the reason we go to a private school is to get extra help whether it is after school or during our free periods and other appropriate times. With this I feel as if Desmet lacks in this area. The curriculum is mediocre but as any school you can be challenged as needed. I often feel deceived as if that the school spends most of there money on advertising and recruiting to their potential students and when you arrive they do not put money into their faculties. Desmet has moved on from our principal and I will hope for change but it feels unlikely. I feel this school is a good diverse school and offers many levels of learning but lacks in adminstration, faculty, and facilities.
De Smet Jesuit High School's motto is "Men for Others". You have the opportunity to bring that to life through service work, especially Junior Project where every Monday during the school year instead of going to school, you are assigned a service job. Mine was as a teacher aid for a preschool class. The teachers are challenging but understanding. I especially like the English and history classes. They have cool classes like forensics, film study, and music appreciation that break up the core class schedule a bit and they offer several AP and College Courses so you can get ahead. The students are taught to be forward thinkers and by the end of their 4 years they must prove that they are open to growth, intellectually competent, religious, loving, committed to justice, and developed as a leader in a process called the "Grad at Grad".
