I recently graduated from Aldine Davis High School in June 2016. Being the very first class to complete four years in the building it was difficult. The school was opened in 2012 for freshman and Sophomore students in the North side of Houston. Starting from scratch was difficult because traditions had to develop by experiences. Uniforms were enforced heavy and rules were ridiculous. Students with cars was prohibited to leave campus for lunch, lockers were dismissed, fights were initiated, bathroom passings were enforced, unregistered visitors were present and etc.. I feel as though Davis High School did NOT prepare my peers and I for the "real world". Instead of treating us as young adults, we were treated as little kids by the staff. Certain clubs were prohibited to travel and compete. Certain traditions were missed out such as Homecoming week, Prom Week and Special Holidays. The students need classes that will help survive in the world and also prepare them for their careers.
Davis high has been a great school. I have seen growth in my daughter since she has been going there. I think the best thing about what they offered Hailey was the opportunity to see how to start growing. She took a medical anatomy class and she found out how interesting it was and she started to get really excited about learning more. From there she got into a medical scholars program and she became a CNA and is now a med tech at a retirement home. Im so glad she got these opportunities.
Davis High School is a place that I have gone all 4 years of high school. Like all school it has its ups and down. But what I like the most about Davis is the dance team, I am currently an officer on it and it’s the greatest experience in my 4 years in high school. I also like most of the teachers, there nice but not to nice. It’s a great school to come to, and I’m happy to say I’ll be graduating soon (class of 2019!). Through the journey I’ve learned a lot about others and truly discovered myself and my true potential. With just a little determination and hard work you can really get a long way!
