Throughout my entire experience at David H. Hickman High School, what I enjoyed most were the teachers. Not only were they extremely supportive and respectful, but they also cared about students moving forward with there education. They were always on top of making sure students are understanding what they're learning. That is something I will forever be grateful for as my future evolves. Although, something I hope to see change at Hickman is resources and administration. I wish they were more involved with helping the students prepare for colleges, such as FAFSA, applications or even just one on one talk about college lifestyle itself. Hopefully, the future generation will have more knowledge. Nonetheless, Hickman High school was a great experience and I enjoyed my four years there!
I have been going to Hickman for the past 4 years a love it here! I could not imagine going to a better high school in my area. The atmosphere is wonderful and very positive. The teachers are great and I can easily talk to them whenever I need. The students can be challenging to work with at times but that seems to be the case for most high schools. I am an honors student and enjoy the classes available. They fit my needs along with the needs of students who do not need the challenge like I do. Overall, Hickman is a really great school and I am proud to be a kewpie.
Some teachers use grading as a punishment. For example: today a teacher decided at the end of class to announce that if the student took their phone out any time during class they failed for the day. It was common practice in this class to use their phones when the work was done. This had the effect of dropping the student's grade 1.5%. This is disappointing as teachers are supposed to be helping the students get into college not dock their GPA and reduce their financial aid awards!
