Davenport High was like any other small, Oklahoma school. There were teachers of every mindset, some that loved teaching and helping students and others who felt that they had failed life and their students were just a constant reminder of that, a complete lack of proper funding featuring poorly funded athletics and even more destitute libraries and arts programs. The administration left plenty to be desired by clearing bestowing favor on some students while disregarding and belittling/borderline harassing others. While my personal experience there was far from traumatizing, the administration never failed to remind me just what I was to them: a dollar sign, nothing more. My graduation from this institution was nothing I ever looked back on and while I have some pleasant memories there due to the friends that I made, the education I received never fails to leave a bitter taste in my mouth.
My whole school career has been at Davenport High School. The reason I love this school is because of how small the school is. Being at a small school, you get more one on one experience with teachers. Being a small school has its disadvantages like not offering a wide variety of classes.
We are pretty strict with safety and health precautions. Always has been and each year it improves.
We do not have that many opportunities to be in extracurricular but honestly we still manage to get things done that's needed.
Our teachers are good. but some have a problem of not keeping the same rules and gets mad about students running over them, but other then that, teachers are good.
There is no tolerance for bullying and any type of violence. The schools are monitored with cameras and there are random drills to prepare for safe evacuation techniques.
The cafeteria has a variety of food choices and they have a lot of healthy alternatives for kids that have certain food disabilities. I am a diabetic and they always made sure that I had a snack ready if I ever needed one.
The administration and staff can be very strong when it comes to disobeying rules and punishment that will come after. Our superintendent has made davenport a very well behaved school. The only thing they are too harsh on would be the dress code. Bullying is not tolerated at Davenport, there will be severe punishment for that.
I was honored to play sports at Davenport during high school. We took them very seriously and strive to be the bet we could be. Every single one of our coaches were excellent and not only taught us about the sport but also about life. There are fitness facilities located at the school for students and alumni of the school to use. The school spirit we have there is great because every team supports each other, we all want our school to excel in the athletic department.
Davenport is a strong sports school. I myself participated in basketball, track, softball, and cheer leading. Each sport has a coach that is very committed to the team. Davenport has won the state tournament in softball for fast pitch and slow pitch the last three years. The girls basketball team got runner in the state tournament two years in a row, and the football team got runner up in the state tournament in 2012.
After I graduated high school I was immediately thrown into work. I work as a teller at a bank and it really prepared me for future events such as car payments, and home loans. I was prepared for work and school after graduation because I had a great counselor in high school. She really made my transition into the real world a whole lot easier than what I expected it to be.
