Ive been at darnell since 6th grade and i can say my knowledge of life has grown tremendously. Ive participated in multiple clubs, school spirit activities, and multicultural events and i enjoyed every minute of it. If you're looking for a school with administration involvement this school might not be a good high school for you. Most of the administrators worry about the middle school rather than the high school. This school also doesn't have high school sports so i never got to experience what a football game was like. I never got to meet new people because my class was 70 people and stayed like this all four years of high school. If i could've i would've left darnell when i had the chance.

Darnell Cookman has been a school growing in diversity and always advocating for the best for their students. The small size of this magnet school give the chance for all students to get to know one another and bond together, not just those in the classroom, but across grade levels. Each grade from seniors to six graders, interact with one another and benefit from each other. The teachers make sure to know each student and form relationships with them which will remain strong across the years.
There is something for everyone here. Clubs are always a source of where people can get together and bond over their commitment and passion for something. The most famous club, and rightfully so, is the Multicultural Club. It is a club where students across grade levels come together and work on dances, fashion, and art to showcase at the end of the year the school's diverse and shows how Darnell Cookman takes pride on having different people, ideas, and cultures thriving in our buildings.
I have attended Darnell-Cookman since 6th grade, and in that time the school has sculpted me into the woman I am now; I have transitioned from a shy, insecure girl that was okay with doing the bare minimum into a goal oriented, involved, and high achieving student. As a student at Darnell I have been exposed to many opportunities, such as an internship at NAS Jax Medical Center where I was given the privilege of shadowing doctors and surgeons. We went into the operating room and observed an ACL replacement, bluff removal, and a vasectomy. We went through the Trauma Casualty Combat Care obstacle course where we were instructed how reach an injured sailor in the field of combat to apply a tourniquet, saving their life. Darnell has prepared me for the pursuit of a higher education; the rigorous course work prepares students for the work load and expectations in college. I highly recommend this school, even if your child doesn't to be a doctor or is unsure of what they want to be.
