From Dana Hall School

At Dana Hall School, we have high expectations and know that academic
excellence is best realized in girls when their social and emotional needs are equally considered with their intellect. Students work through a vigorous curriculum and choose between a variety of electives. Students openly dive in to topics from many angles. This allows each student, with intention, to listen deeply to perspectives and develop values that are most effective for her.

Our current curriculum and legacy of teaching girls how they learn best energize our community. Every girl engages in studies in arts and sciences and exercises creative and critical thinking. As a result, Dana graduates are exceptionally prepared to tackle challenges at college, and beyond.

Dana Hall students prosper, form bonds and a lasting network, on our campus and across the globe. This unique combination of opportunity and encouragement empowers each student to bring courage to all that she does while at Dana and in her future.

Dana made me feel accepted for who I am, and I’ve never felt this confident and never have had this much self-love. There’s something for every girl here. Whether you’re into athletics, visual arts, performing arts, computer science, model UN or equestrian, there’s something for you and they’re high quality. Teachers care about you and are understanding. People here are diverse, vibrant and all care about each other. There’s outstanding levels for everyone, from honors and AP to introductory. If you ever need help, there’s science, math and English lab during the day if you need help. Teachers are always happy to help you after class! It’s super safe and you can even walk to Wellesley center and get food like: ice cream, Starbucks, pizza, Dunkin’ Donuts and more, in less than a 5 minute walk!

I like how focused Dana is around building a strong community as it’s very helpful to have such a welcoming environment for new students. There are some fallacies with this for some people’s opinions are coddled and this prevents issues within the community from being solved. Dana is very stagnant in the amount of change around mending relationships and interactions between the very different types of students at the school. When tensions are high between students, administration either doesn’t know or doesn’t acknowledge it until it can damage the image of the school. Even so, the problems are only patched. Nothing is properly fixed. Everyone (by this I mean the student body) just co exists in their existing groups and makes Dana as a whole work for them throughout all of its shortcomings. Personally, my experience has improved over the time I’ve been there, but it is interesting to see how things are being changed over my tenure.
I am going into my senior year and I absolutely love Dana Hall. I transferred for sophomore year and I am so glad I did, as the teachers really care about what they teach, the school has incredible resources (both academically and athletically), and the young women in each grade really care about doing well in school and care for each other. By the time I graduate, it will be three years very well spent.
