Damien Memorial School in Honolulu is an amazing place to be. I was fortunate enough to be accepted freshman year, and I was completely overwhelmed by the welcoming spirit I got from the faculty and the students. Even though it is a Catholic school, never once did I feel uncomfortable being a non-Catholic. Everyone there is very respectful of different beliefs, and it is a safe, controlled space to be able to share a difference in opinion without being put down. Being that Damien has changed from all boys to co-ed, there are definitely a lot of improvements to the school. Academically, Damien provides college preparatory courses for all grades to help students prepare for college. Also, our athletic teams are flourishing. Our football team won the ILH Division II championship three times in a row, and our basketball team won states this year. At Damien, we really live by our school's motto, "Viriliter Age", which means "Act Courageously" by doing volunteer work for our community.

I have been in Damien since 2015, I attended Damien for my high school career. Damien has taught me many things that I need in order to thrive in life. The thing that I love most about Damien is the faculty and staff. The reason why this is the best in opinion is because the staff and faculty try their best to get to know you, and help you with what you need. The only thing that I would like Damien to change is their facilities. At the moment, us students are parking in the football field, and not in the parking lot meant for students. Although the parking lot for students is under construction, students should be given the option to park in the main parking lot without payment since there has been an expansion in stalls. Also parking in the football field creates a liability for the school because some vehicles have trouble getting in the field, because of the ground clearance of some cars.
When I applied for Damien Memorial School, I was going to be a part of a big change. During 2012, the school switched from an All Boys School to Co-ed. I was honored to be a part of the first graduating co-ed class of Damien Memorial School. It was a rocky road with new changes but I was glad for all the opportunities given. The teachers were very knowledgeable and taught everyone with equality. There are also different sports that everyone could join. I enjoyed attending the school and it was the closet private high school to me.
