I was parent choiced into Dakota Ridge to participate in it's Art Department, and I've loved it! The only thing I'd like to see change is more funding (and respect) to the band and music department versus the Sports Department.
Review Dakota Ridge Senior High School
The teachers are awesome but there is seriously no diversity. There are almost no minorities and everyone's upper middle class. The academics are great, but the social atmosphere is unrealistic and doesn't prepare people for reality or even a college campus that would have a lot more diversity. Creates a snobbish attitude in kids, which only hurts them later on in life socially. A large group of me and my friends were constantly harassed by the security to the point the school cop had to step in and tell him to stop because, even though we didn't hang out with him, we talked frequently to one trouble kid.
Dakota Ridge is simply more than a school, it is a community. The administration is extremely supportive of every club and student; they are constantly encouraging students and assisting them--not only in ensuring that a topic is well understood but also by having an open ear to anyone who needs a friend. Similarly, the students are friendly and welcoming to all people. There is usually a heavy work load and high expectations, but there are several support networks and workshops for tutoring, colleges, obtaining jobs, and personal issues. Well-maintained, the school grounds are beautiful and clean providing a comfortable learning environment. Just being a part of the school community establishes a sense of connection, safety, and sense of belonging.
