Dakota Ridge High School is an excellent environment for students of all cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds; Anyone can feel welcome here between its open-minded student body and clubs celebrating diversity. Its dedication to college preparedness, such as the mandatory PSAT tests and implementation of PSAT-style practice questions into classwork, is unrivaled. Its standardized test scores are also some of the highest in Jefferson County, in part because of the teacher's willingness to make extra time for students to seek help and better themselves outside of class. However, like anything, it could be improved. While counselors know their students very well, there is not enough encouragement on the faculty's part for students to build a rapport with their counselors early on. Also, while students are encouraged to get involved, there could be a wider variety of clubs and activities available.

The school itself is great, beautiful architecture, large student body, wonderful staff, all things you would look for in a great high school. I had an incredible and easy time getting involved in extracurriculars all four years. Also, the highest scoring school in the area. There were many accounts that I heard about of students being suggested to transfer to other schools by the administration because of their inability to keep up, and not any specialized schools, but just other high schools, and personally, I wouldn't have put it past some of the administration to suggest this in order to keep scores high. Not to mention, it is preached very constantly and rather aggressively the importance of taking higher-level classes versus regular ones, which again, isn't a bad thing per-say, but does create somewhat of a higher-ranking (socially speaking) for the kids in the higher-level classes, which promoted a lot of bullying in the school.
The teachers and staff at Dakota Ridge are very encouraging and helpful. I have always respected each staff member, and received the same respect back. The academics have been very good, challenging but still provide a high chance for success. We have not been especially great at sports, but the coaches and my experience as a volleyball player have been amazing and inspiring. I loved Dakota as a high school student and I know my parents feel the same way. It is very safe and very easy to be successful at this school. I would highly recommend it to any student. Dakota Ridge has very high overall test scores and is very fun to go to! However, there is a lack of diversity there and it would be nice if there was more diverse backgrounds or ethnicities that attended.
