The school community is what made the school years very enjoyable. The environment this school created is beyond great. They make sure you’re on the right track to college, making sure you’re taking all classes needed to graduate while helping seniors with applications and the whole process of it. Even though the work may seem a lot it prepared me for college. I found the workload to be the same in college which help make the transitions much easier than expected. Additionally, the school prepares students with their public speaking skills without them even knowing. Having multiple presentations, speaking in front of a panel of teachers, speaking in front of people in the medical field such as doctors and more! The school has a very big emphasis in the STEM field holding activities in which their own students help expose the different careers STEM offers to the younger kids. Lastly the hands on experience the teachers provide are what makes each class enjoyable.
When I first was accepted to Da Vinci Science, it was during the Pandemic. Da Vinci's teachers did an amazing job keeping us students engaged, and passing on the culture of Da Vinci to us. The culture that I saw flourish was: "Ask Questions, Find Solutions, and Work Together". Those three pillars are what makes me the student I am today. To often students are afraid of asking questions, whereas at Da Vinci they are encouraged to. Along with this culture, the teachers each have a unique style that they are more than happy to employ. Sometimes your final deliverable is a debate, and sometimes it's a handmade costume. It depends on the level of effort you are willing to put into it. Da Vinci also has a phenomenal robotics team that I have been a part of since freshman year. All in all, I have been able to pursue my passions, have mentors, learn to ask questions, and work collaboratively with my peers all while getting an excellent eduaction.
Da Vinci is a wonderful school that has terrific staff and students. Everyone is able to find people to hang out with. The school has a project based learning which means that a decent amount of the grade is calculated through projects you do, however there are tests. There are no AP classes provided as the school feels that this can affect school culture, that being said it does allow the teachers to teach what they want meaning that the classes are more focused and exciting. The school is also very small, about 130 students per graduating class, every teacher knows their students. We have advisories which are like our family on campus and seminars that you get to pick which can range from athletics to leadership. There are only finals for the seniors, however we do have presentations of learning. This is a presentation at the end of the year to share what you learn, it doesn't account towards your GPA.
