My experience with the Yakima School District has been great. They make sure to give the resources that are needed to be able to succeed in life, and although it's great to have said resources, it would be great to have more parent/guardian involvement within the schools. In my opinion, having more parent and family involvement would be beneficial not only to the family, but the students. Students would be able to feel support from their teachers and parents since both parties would establish a connection and understanding of what's best for the student.
I like how involved teachers can be! But the schools don’t prepare you for college. Teachers are too flexible, only “good” kids are notified about college opportunities. There is not an equal chance, when there should be.
Throughout my school experience teachers never failed to help and guide me towards success. To be sincere, I think that's what made my experience at the Yakima School District so memorable. I always felt comfortable asking for help regardless if it was about school or just personal life advice. After my dad got shot, I will admit, I was traumatized. At the time I was in middle school and had no family to talk or vent to about my current emotions and trauma. However, there was a teacher who noticed my change of character and reached out to me. Truthfully, I will be thankful for her for the rest of my life. She constantly made sure I was okay and never failed to remind me how amazing, smart, and capable I am to accomplish anything I set my mind to. I think about this daily and it brings warmth to my heart because I know that she wouldn't just ask about my well being because its her job as a teacher but because she cared.
