Rating 3.45 out of 5 11 reviews
I am a senior at Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School in Wisconsin. This high school is a combination of two elementary schools located in Birnamwood and Wittenberg. I have attended classes in this district since I was in pre school, and I love the small town atmosphere. Sports here are very competitive, and every coach is willing to do anything to see you succeed, whether that be helping you in classes, or directly in the sport. Wittenberg-Birnamwood is considered a division 4 school in sports, so athletes there are working their hardest to succeed. As for academics, the teachers always make sure to explain all content thoroughly and also make it the easiest they possibly can to allow students to succeed. At this high school, students are easily able to succeed and enjoy their experience.
Overall, I liked the experience here as it is a small school where it's easy to know everyone. I do think that the academics and help with future planning need to be improved. The academics aren't as rigorous as they could potentially be. I also have seen many senior students, including myself, struggle when it comes to planning for the future outside of high school. We have administrators to go to for help with this planning, but they rarely provide us with the proper resources and help we need.
Most of the staff truly care about their students, and the administration does its best to make sure the students feel welcome. We do well athletically, especially considering our size. The wrestling team regularly has athletes qualify for state, and the girls' track team was state champion in 2017 and 2018. Also, referendum was passed in the last year which will hopefully increase school safety and improve the facilities.
Overall, I've enjoyed my time at WBHS and have formed connections with many of the staff. Although I won't be able to see the benefits of the referendum myself, as construction will be starting after this school year, I very strongly believe that the district is taking a strong step forward towards improving their facilities and in physically showing their commitment towards making elementary and secondary education for its' students as high-quality as they can.
