Winooski has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to education. They were among the first to introduce proficiency-based grading, and they have a course that is specifically designed for students to get credit for learning about their interests. It is also very rare to be surrounded by all types of people in a state that is 97% white. I have been very lucky to experience this diversity and to know what it's like to be the minority. Like any school, Winooski has it's rough spots. Many of the students have grown up in poverty, and face difficulties at home that can bleed into school. However, the teachers at Winooski are unlike most others. Anyone can see how much they care for the students, and due to Winooski's smaller population, they can help students individually and adjust for their needs or interests. Winooski is often overlooked or underrated due to its socio-economic status, but this district can not and should not be ranked solely on that, because it is so much more.
They handled the pandemic incredibly well keeping our freedom in mind but with our safety above all. I made many memories my junior year even while in a hybrid learning model. We even still have sports all three seasons!
I have attended the Winooski School District since I moved here from Nepal. I have had such a great experience with all the awesome students and teachers. I have never felt out of place or unwelcome. I have grown and learned a lot both academically and personally. One of my favorite parts of being a student at Winooski is diversity. It is such a diverse school that you will find multiples languages and people from all over the world. Learning about their culture, lifestyle, and their previous homes are very intriguing. Overall, I have had an amazing academic career at Winooski and I could not have asked for better.
