Westfield Public Schools is a fairly run school system with average teachers and very out dated buildings/ways of teaching. Many teachers in this school system are unaware of how to engage their students and effectively teach them. Throughout my experience from elementary to high school levels, some teachers seem to lack the knowledge of their own class and curriculum. Other teachers are amazing and have exciting and innovative ways of teaching that leave students engaged and learning. The 3 schools that I have attended in Westfield are quite dirty and sometimes disturbing because of what I have seen. There are wasps that fly around the gymnasium, dead roaches on the stairs, and mice running in the halls, all at Westfield High School. The cafeteria is cleaned very poorly, with crumbs and liquid covering the tables when the first lunch of the day begins. However, I will give credit to the Vocational School for having many shop options, and Westfield High for their fair course choices.
My experience at Westfield High School was average, I felt I wasn’t challenged enough even in some of my advanced and AP classes. I also feel that the teachers have not ever expressed any sort of concern for their students or have encouraged them in any way. Most of them are not supportive either. They only express concern for grades and that is all their classes are about is passing and not getting anything else out it it.
It’s a welcoming environment and teachers are always willing to help out with any problems including personal problems students may be facing. Engaging with many after school and during school extracurricular activities and/or clubs that student can get involved in. Also offers special trips to experience other cultures in different countries such as Europe and has exchange student programs to get to know students from foreign countries.
