I moved to West Islip during middle school, in seventh grade. Despite my fears about making friends and becoming adjusted to all the teachers it was made very easy for me. I made many friends very quickly, who took the liberty of approaching me first and making me feel very comfortable. This was the case for the teachers as well as they all guided me through the West Islip way of doing things. In the following years since my arrival at West Islip I experienced and are still experiencing an effective process of learning in which all of my teachers are thoroughly knowledged on the subjects they are teaching and push me to do the best I can in my own understanding of said subject. Additionally, all the administrators are very friendly and make West Islip a safe environment for all that attend while still maintaining a fun attitude that makes kids want to come to school everyday.
West Islip school district has helped me have a burning desire to learn with interests, and pursue them which has taught me research skills. Sometimes people are surprised by the way I think and speak, but I am always very precise and have found to have a talent for scientific writing. I have good character and always show loyalty, honesty, courage, integrity, and virtues that promote good and positive behavior. I am an exceptional listener and have patience, respect, sincerity, and empathy. Also, I choose to do the right thing because I believe it is morally right to do so. I have gone through surgery during high school due to my medical condition. But I have been blessed and it did not hold me back and I work harder with my studies as well as activities. My objective in life is to make a difference, and that is why I am choosing to be a nurse practitioner who will care for pediatric and patients who will help them with love and compassion to feel better and be well.
This school district is very focused around the children. It is very open to change and the community is very supportive. The teachers I had in the district were all very qualified and helpful. The district includes several extracurricular activities making it very easy for all students to get involved and make new friends. The schools in this district are very clean and have recent renovations. The district is not very diverse and could use more inclusive practices. Overall, the transportation to and from school is timely and clean. The lunches are typical school lunches and are not the best. They do offer reduced and free lunch for students in need. I found that the academic programs are advanced and better than you would find at most other schools. There is plenty opportunity for extra help and the district offers classes for students who require more academic attention. The school is also very accepting of those who require extra exam time and other academic assistances.
