I enjoyed my experience at West Genesee High School. I had a great experience with the faculty, and they thoroughly prepared me for the real world. I formed many connections with the teachers I have had at West Genesee. They not only were amazing teachers, but gave great advice that I would carry with me through life. The community of Camillus is very tight knit, and the parents are always supporting everyone. At West Genesee, I wouldn't like to see much change other than allowing students a bit more freedom, especially the upperclassmen. At times, I felt as though the school was too strict in certain areas, sometimes for good reason. However, I would still like to see students at West Genesee, get to have more freedom, so that they are even more prepared for whatever it is they do next, after they leave West Genesee High School.

I loved the music program, there is several bands, orchestras, choirs, and dance ensembles that you can take part in. Also there is an amazing opportunity at the end of every year where all fine arts students perform at the CivicCenter in downtown Syracuse. My younger brother is a special needs child and their special education program and relationship with OCM BOCES provides good life skills that can help people with disabilities. I also participated in sports, and the school just updated the locker rooms, and they look wonderful. Plus most of the coaches are also teachers in the school which (for me) created an even better relationship with that teacher.
West genesee high school is a great place to learn, develop your character and to prepare yourself for college. the academic programs are pretty strong but they could use some updating and less lecturing. Throughout my high school career, i have been shaped by some of the best and worst teachers. some students get lucky and get the good teachers and some students get all bad teachers. this leads to unequal opportunity because one student is taught by someone who loves what they are doing, and the other student has to take on the challenge of teaching him or herself the curriculum. . On the other hand, the career center is a wonderful place. the teachers in there help you find job shadowing, volunteer work, or college interviews. I believe this is very important to have at the school and cannot imagine west genesee without it. Overall I believe west genesee has prepared me well for college or whatever comes after high school.
