Rating 3.8 out of 5 45 reviews
I made some amazing friends and met fabulous people at my time at West Allegheny. However, the teachers were not all that great more times than not the teachers didn’t really care about the students. I have many personal experiences and heard many times when the teachers were unfair and out of line and as a student that’s said often but it is completely unfair. Teachers say they are preparing you for college but if that’s the case I don’t know how colleges make income they just give out zeros for fun.
I would consider it to be a slightly above average public school experience. There are a few very good teachers that provide the school with a more lively experience. The administration is as most public school administrations are- they have their rules and policies and follow them unflinchingly, regardless of circumstance. It is also worth noting the Kindness Workshop activity that made local news. As a brief overview, a full grade was made to reveal very deep personal information to other classmates in an attempt to reduce bullying, by showing students how many experiences they share, however the 'anonymous' aspect of the activity only involved a student holding something in front of their face when they spoke, meaning all students could recognize the speaker.
I know this review feels scathing thus far, but the academics of the school were very good compared to other high schools in surrounding areas. There was a relatively good mannered and fun atmosphere from students and faculty

I have had children in 3 of the 5 schools within the district. As an educator myself, I feel I am a qualified to rate them from both a parental and educational perspective. While they offer a number of opportunities for students, including Early College in High School, I believe their focus is too heavy on appearances and less on the individual student. They strive to meet standards, but in doing so I feel they pass children along that perhaps shouldn't be. The High School Administrative Team is lacking desperately. They need stronger administrators across the board. At the district administrative level, they need a bit more organization and follow through as well.
