Overall, Wayland Union Schools is an average school. It was nothing too poor or too good. I do not think our school needs an "over the top" rating. There are some poor things about our school. I believe our school doesn't do enough for the major bullying and racism taking place at Wayland. We have guidance counselors and assistant principles but I still think enough isn't done to make our students feel as if they aren't gonna be judged. For students suffering mental health, this also is a hard thing to cope with at Wayland. Juniors and Seniors understand the building, whereas the younger grades (Sophomores and Freshman) do not. Where I am going with that is that new students walking into the building think they know the place. Positively, Wayland Union Schools has a great athletic program. Both Boy and Girl sports. Wayland should take pride in that. Wayland also has a good food source for lunchtime. Many good choices. Academically, learning is okay. That is why Wayland is Average.
I personally did not enjoy my schooling experience with Wayland Union Schools. Most of the funding went towards the athletic department, while the arts department was left with minimal funding. Peers were often rude and uninviting. The school itself is in very poor condition, as the ceiling was constantly being torn apart or fixed and there was always leaks. However, the use of iPads was helpful to my learning experience. Some teachers made the school much more enjoyable.
I really like the comfortable atmosphere at Wayland. There are an abundance of clubs for every type of activity, and there are plenty of arts and sciences classes offered. I've noticed that there are sometimes tensions between students that break out in fights, or often times we have vaping issues. But overall, the staff are very helpful and make it a great school.
