I attended 12 years of schooling via Washington County Public School System (WCPS). I believe the students received above average education to make us successful in college and life. Could the education have been better? Yes, nonetheless, we were adequately prepared for the future. A large number of the 2021 high school graduates received exceptional scholarships to ivy league, top 10, and other notable universities.
WCPS lacks diversity in its administration, faculty, and academic curriculum. Minority students like myself can recall less than 10% of diversity in faculty throughout our 12 years. Subjects that promote minority pride and culture and accomplishment by minorities were missing from the academic line-up. Yes, there was the usual 1-minute sound bite during recognized holidays but outside these times, nothing of noteworthy accomplishment is mentioned.
If improvement is made to including more minority inclusion throughout the entire WCPS, it may receive a 5-star rating.

Washington County public schools does a good job of encouraging students to go to college and participate in work after graduation. There are many opportunities such as the Maryland apprenticeship Program that I am in that gives high school students the chance to get real life work experience in their field before graduating high school. They also offer both Barbra Ingram School for the Arts and Washington County Technical High School for those interested in pursing arts or going straight into the work force post graduation. These are all great opportunities that prepare students for what is to come.
High remediation rate 0n MD Colleges and Universities - 46%, 5th worst in Maryland. Kindergarten Readiness Assessment only 43%, only 3 districts rank lower. County only provides minimum funding required by state. Failed to develop diversity and inclusion policy. Board of Education in Washington County fails to provide adequate support services for students.
