Many teachers fall in love with what they do and the work they provide for students. But others are influenced by what they feel such as not teaching a lesson because they've had a bad day or because they just don't feel like it. This comes at the expense of the students because they made an effort to come to class and learn but teachers do not make an effort to come and teach. This is of course a select handful of teachers. I loved my experience there but it was drowned out by lack of attention to student awareness, teacher carelessness, and no effort put forth by administration to make changes. The new principal tries her best to make the school better but only changes cosmetic things such as fancy new chairs or tables rather than pressing issues like bad teachers. But they have this policy where any teacher who has been there longer than ten years is untouchable. Strange.
My overall experience has been very positive! WHS offers students the opportunity to get as engaged as they would like in many different areas...the arts, sports, clubs, extracurricular activities. There is somethings for everyone! Academically, WHS also offers very challenging curriculum as well as a college readiness track. Which route students take, there is plenty of support along the way. The administration, guidance counselors and teachers are top notch! They all truly care about students and it comes across loud and clear. They focus not only on a quality education but developing quality people in the four years they are at WHS. They care about the whole person and not just grades. I have had a wonderful experience at Wakefield Memorial High School and am a better person for having gone there.
I am a Senior at Wakefield Memorial High School.I've had a decent four years so far, my educational was great and the school has plenty of opportunities to give students on how they wish to complete their high school education, like Dual Enrollment. It's not a very diverse school, it's a predominantly white town, so that gives in to play to who might go to school. But, there are lots of different types of people, so you'll always have someone who might like the same things as you. Everything else about the school is pretty normal. But I will say that They do a great job at preparing their students for college.
