I absolutely loved my experience with the Vermilion Parish school district. Everyone had so much school spirit everyday no matter what we had lost. Over my 4 years in high school we lost four students. One being from my class, they made everyone feel welcome to speak about their pain and mourning and still managed to get through the school day. She was the biggest party animal and best student a school could ask for, a student that deserves to be mentioned during this writing. She was someone you could go to for anything, no matter if she knew you or not she had some piece of advice to give you. Mrs. Denise, our principal did an amazing job of honoring her life at our graduation because our class was determined that we could not graduate without her. The school has given me so many memories to look back on and I am so grateful to say that I went to school in Vermilion Parish.
The Vermilion Parish school district has provided me with the educational tools to succeed. In Kaplan, the saying “once a pirate, always a pirate” rings true as many teachers, staff and coaches are former Kaplan High School graduates who returned to Kaplan to share their education. It’s because of this dedication that Kaplan has become and continues to remain an “A” school and is recognized for their success. Kaplan High School sports never disappoint and have unbelievable community support. Many of the coaches were once Kaplan Pirate athletes and return to Kaplan because their heart is here. I definitely feel that my elementary through high school education has me prepared for a successful future.
My experience was not all that great. Throughout my career within the Vermilion Parish School System, many things that should not take place within a school have. The teachers are no where near prepared to be teaching us. Especially when they're learning it the day before we are.
