I am currently a senior at Vanguard Academy. My overall experience regarding the past 4 years of my attendance at Vanguard has been a good one. Administration and the majority of teachers are approachable and kind. The academics is overwhelming when it comes to the amount of homework given; however, some teachers believe in no homework on Wednesday due to their knowledge of students attending church, which is thoughtful. In addition, they're beginning to introduce new sports, such as golf and volleyball, and continue to advance academically in implementing more dual enrollment courses that would benefit students in their future careers.
In my district I like that we are able to have multiple opportunities such as dual enrollment classes, dance and music classes, and AP courses. What I think Vanguard can improve on is their pick up/ drop off method. Every time I need to get picked up or dropped off it takes a lot longer than necessary. I also think that the cell phone policy needs to improve. There are many times when I need to contact my parents after school and I am unable to because teachers will take away my phone. This has caused many miscommunications between me and my parents.
Vanguard Mozart Secondary has provided me with resources and the mentors to become not just a high ranked student, but also a better leader. I recommend my high school to almost everyone I know. I would not change my high school for any other high school because of their unconditional support and care that they invest in every single student.
