Urbana School District No. 116 Reviews
There are multiple activities my favorite were dance and soccer. There is a lot of diversity so you feel more welcomed because you can talk to any one. They have bilingual classes for those who struggle with English. There are also teacher and staff who help you with school related things and also outside of school problems or activities. The school is semi big and the location is safe. The school is big on safety so they always have cameras on and a police officer around. The cafeteria is a cool place to relax and eat good food and snacks, we are lucky to have a variety of meals and choice from which to pick from. I also like that many clubs and teams get to travel to other states or cities to play and or learn. Like the African American club, they have traveled to Atlanta and Washington and hopefully soon North Carolina.
The teachers are wonderful and try their best to teach each and every student. But outsides the teachers, the high school and the entire district are a mess. Almost, if not 100% of the administration is new this year for the high school. Supposedly most have had prior experience working to manage schools. However, once they started managing, the school is about as dangerous as the south side of Chicago. There are fights almost everyday either at the high school or the middle school. The new admin didn't know how to properly stop the fights nor punish those involved. I know that other students are afraid of more fights breaking out. The admin also came in the first day saying they will treat us as adults. However, not too far into the year, they issue "roar tickets" or something like that that is a childish form of rewards that doesnt make us teenagers feel accepted or seen as adults as they promised we would be. There is so much wrong with this district.
I am a 2016 graduate of Urbana high school. What I liked about Urbana High school was that it was family oriented school. Urbana was my home away from home. I couldn't have aone on one talk with my teachers about anything not concerning school. Also when it was about school work they did everything in their.power ro help me because they wanted to see me succeed. The principal was really relatable to all students amd knew how to make the students have a great time! Teachers made learning fun for us! The only thing that I would change about Urbana high school is the cafeteria food, other than that I absolutely enjoyed my experience there.
