Although I attended Tumwater High School solely for my senior year, I have had some of the best experiences and opportunities here than at any other time throughout my high school career. The smaller size enables closer teacher-to-student connections that I didn't find elsewhere. There are so many ways counselors and teachers support their students and the students show an outstanding amount of pride and love for their school and athletics teams. I loved each of my classes, even math, and will treasure that I had the opportunity to finish off strongly - only due to the excellence in curriculum organization and resources and teacher support. Graduating from Tumwater High School is an honor.
Tumwater School District has high quality staff, administration, and teachers. I have been in the Tumwater School District for 12 years now, and I have had nothing but positive experiences with each and every staff member. I have always been encouraged to challenge myself in my learning, and I would not be who I am today without the selfless individuals who have guided me here. The Tumwater School District staff not only encourage academic success, but also individual success on a personal level. I feel that Tumwater as a city lacks diversity in culture, and it shows in the school systems. However, the school district continues to provide resources and opportunities to encourage and support diversity in every aspect.
I came to the school district my Junior year after my parents got separated. I loved that all the kids in my classes were driven to learn and desired good grades and bright future. They all cared about their grades. They were also very rigid on their attendance which helped me do better in school. The school district is known for it's success rates in our state and it couldn't have been done without the teachers there. The teachers at my school always sought to help their students anyway way they possibly can. the districts schools and sports are great competitors, However they lack diversity and mindfulness of other races and cultures. The environment in my school was very racist. I remember one day in class my teacher asked why Hispanic don't vote and a kid blurted out " BECAUSE THEY ARE TRASH" and all the teacher did was shrug her shoulders in agreement. I had originally came from a very diverse school so I wasn't used to such hatred. The atmosphere needs to change.
