Travis Unified School District is definitely above average within Solano County in terms of academics. Due to the large influx of military families, there is great diversity within the community.
Specifically at Vanden High School, the social worker Kenleen Pringle is able to accommodate to the emotional and social means of each student she comes across. As Vanden exudes open-mindedness and community awareness, many teachers, especially Kylie Negin and Jennifer Ault are at the utmost concern for the mental health of their students.
With resources such as the tutoring center and library open until later hours, every student's academic needs are met substantially.
Travis Unified School District is by far the most giving and motivated school district to help students become college bound, and definitely career ready.

Vanden High has a good academic program, although I do think the teachers could be more involved. A lot of teachers show you how to do the work once and then expect the rest to come from the students. More interaction would make a difference in how we learn. I also believe the counselors should be have more detailed information for the students who play sports, such as how to break down your credits for required core classes or a better explanation of those required core classes. Counselors should meet with the parents and students prior to their senior year to make sure all classes are on track for college. The sports program is great physically, but not as great when it comes to behind the scenes. The football program doesn't have any one person who helps in the recruiting process, which makes it challenging when you want to be recognized for your athleticism outside of your community. Colleges have a hard time contacting coaches, as well as requesting and receiving transcripts.
I have two teens attending Vanden High School. We find that Vanden HS is one of the best schools in our area. They both are academically strong and we’re happy with their academic performances. They are also involved in sports. However, we believe the sports department needs funding. It seems like they are always in need of transportation on their away games. They have a new school library which makes the students happy. However, the whole entire school is very old and outdated. We wish Vanden had newer buildings and facilities to keep up with latest technology. Overall though, we love Vanden High School. Our teens feel safe in this school.
