I’ve been apart of this district my entire life and I have to say it was a very nice experience. Elementary and Intermediate School was amazing I have incredible memories from both places, all of my teachers were amazing and I am so grateful to have grown up in this environment. Middle and High-school was rough but when it comes to the school itself I would like to say that there was minimal diversity and minimal to no education on things like inclusivity. As of now, I have noticed so much improvement and efforts towards educating their students. From clubs to posters that spread awareness for things like mental health and environmental issues. When I noticed change actually happening in our school is when clubs began forming for LGBTQIA+ students, Diversity clubs, and environmental clubs that help in our community with food drives and planting flowers around our school building. All in all my experience at Tonawanda Schools was an average experience.
I have been attending the Tonawanda City School District since I was 11 years old. I attended Tonawanda for all of middle and high school. My middle school experience definitely could have been better, but I thoroughly enjoyed my years in the high school. Middle school is a lot different from high school; less freedom, stricter class rules, and stricter teachers. All of my middle school teachers have helped me in the transition from middle to high school however, and I thought they were extremely helpful. Overall, I did not like middle school, but maybe that is just from my personal experience. High school at Tonawanda was amazing. I loved how involved my school is with sports, clubs, and other extracurricular activities. As well as the activities and school events, I also loved all of my teachers and all of the help I have received from them over time. I do not think the Tonawanda City School District needs to change anything except the strictness in middle school.
Tonawanda has some of the best teachers, kind, caring and always willing to help their students. What I would like to see changed is the bussing , there are so many students that have to walk from so far that parents feel obligated to drive their children to school because by the time the kids walk to school they’re tired cold and not attentive to learn all day. And the bus loop is a while other story, like who invented that debacle of a mess.
