I've had a really great experience in the Tigard-Tualatin School District. I'm fortunate enough to have had some fantastic teachers who have really changed my outlook on education. This year especially, most of my teachers have adapted a discussion based curriculum and that has really allowed me to exchange ideas with my peers and broaden my perspectives. One element that my district could improve on is the amount of recognition that the arts are given. We have very talented students involved in music and fine art, but they aren't noticed and appreciated as often as the students involved in athletics are.

During my experience in Tigard High School I learned a lot of things. In a way it shaped me into the person I am today. It was during the middle of Freshmen year when I had a hard time fitting in since I was a new student coming from the islands. 6 month of no school, due to the time differences I was anxious and behind. I felt like I wasn't going to make it since I had no clue what was going on. It was a Culture shock. Although I only lived at the islands for 3 years, it was still my whole middle school year which is a lot for me. One day I decided to join a sport to make new friends, Powder Puff. There I met a really nice person named Em and she basically changed my school life. If it wasn't for her I have no clue where I would be today. I went from an anxious, confused student but now has friends and now is in Upward Bound which is a College Prep Program. I also am now the Vice President of the school's Pacific Islander's club.
