I had an average experience, but I know of a lot of people that had a terrible time there. There were multiple incidents involving racism, anti-Semitism, and sexual-harassment. There's a lot of diversity among the students, but one can count on a single hand the amount of teachers of color. The teachers I've had ranged from nice and kindhearted to incredible people that truly care for their students. However, i can't say that's the case for all teachers. Two teachers that I know of had sexual relations with students, and another made inappropriate comments about a friend of mine. On a lighter note, the food is sub-par, save for the mozzarella sticks, which are fairly difficult to mess up, anyway. Most of the people I know were already excited to get out of Stoughton High School by the second month of Freshman year, and by the time school was closed, people were counting the days until graduation and an end to their high school career.
Stoughton High School is a very decent and enriching high school, it is definitely the type of high school that depends on your work ethic and effort as a student and member of the community. The experience is what you make it. SHS has the resources that are needed for students taking on the next step toward college or future endeavors, again it depends on your own effort as well. School spirit and support for sports were never anything less than excellent. There were many clubs for all hobbies and interests. There could have been much more room for opportunity than just AP and Honors classes. The quality of education is good depending on what you make of it. The staff really do care about your well being and your aspirations in the future. It is a little fish in a big pond type of high school, but you can stand out in certain areas. Overall SHS was a decent, small town type of high school with a pretty close knit community. It is a really traditional American high school.
The teachers and staff are very friendly and welcome you with open arms. My first year there I felt very welcomed and the students there really walk with me in and make sure that I was never left alone at lunch.
