My review is really only relevant to the Don Tyson School of Innovation in Springdale because that’s where I go to school; I don’t know much about the other high schools. DTSOI has a lot of unique programs like diesel tech, music composition, and ceramics! High quality equipment is provided for all of the elective programs, and there are lots of pathways. However, school spirit is incredibly lacking. The administration doesn’t seem to listen to student feedback and is resistant to many ideas for art installations or events that could get students more excited, and they also have a history of brushing off cases of bullying and harassment despite their supposedly strict anti bullying policies.
I have been in the Springdale School District as a student from K-12. In my beginning years, I noticed that while there as a lot of diversity, mostly the white children were afforded more resources. Some teachers are very dedicated and clearly passionate about their profession, but others are clearly unqualified and seem to hate being around young people. The administration does a terrible job at being transparent with parents and students. The level of academics is about the best in state, yet the state as the whole is very poorly educated so in comparison to other states, students may be less challenged and prepared for higher education.
I believe that the Springdale School District is efficient and diverse. While we have school spirit and incredible academic opportunities, we also have a strong community and faculty. Often, students are able to connect with their teachers and get the support they need, while also producing a safe space for students. As far as our education goes, we have amazing facility who have really helped me through tough times and taught me conscious discipline. Our educators are the best, as well as, our district being flexible in what way we want to get education whether it be at home or school due to our situation. Lastly, we are fortunate to be able to have awards behind us and make an impact in our community, so much so that it has helped me prepare to be the leaders of tomorrow due to me being on student council and other programs.
