Rating 3.96 out of 5 25 reviews
Southwest Local School District has many programs that help students explore their interests in different fields such as engineering and offers many AP classes to try to get college credit. I would change how our school handles disabilities. If a student suffers from a learning disability, they are able to get a 504. However, they may have to fight to get that 504 or get an IEP. It is also difficult to get accommodations for physical disabilities. I know a student who has diabetes that was unable to get accommodations in formal writing. Luckily, this student has not needed many of those accommodations and the ones they did need the teacher was okay with allowing.
I've had my fair share of bad and good teachers. The schools are just average. Most of the time, the high school is dirty. The extracurriculars are fine, but they put a heavy funding priority mainly on football, but also basketball, soccer, and wrestling, so if you were like me and did dance, drama, or art, you had to do your own fundraising and use old smelly costumes.
Southwest is large, but it has a small school feel. Every student is taught that he/she can achieve.
