Southgate Community School District Reviews
What I really like about Southgate is that all the student stand together to fight for what they believe in and we can come together to support others. My teachers are very supportive and understanding to situations. Most students in this school are very diverse, individuals who are very concerned about their future. I would love to see the school atmosphere change, when you walk into this school it feels very boring, there are very little windows, the school gym needs to be updated and fixed. The atmosphere around the outside of the school could be more colorful and it would help the students have a more enjoyable experience here. Although there are things I would change, overall, are many things this school and the teachers have done for me to help me prepare for college and I couldn’t be more thankful.
Southgate was very welcoming to students of all races, and sexualities. There are many various AP classes, CTE choices, and the teachers constantly work with you. The counselors do everything they possibly can, to ensure your college readiness. This district has been a lifesaver in my education. It has taught me important concepts I'm faced with in my day to day life. The other students have made me feel like I belong there.
The school overall is so-so. There were some aspects of it that were pretty awful, such as the food and some of the staff. But other areas were phenomenal, like the other half of the staff and the extracurricular activities. There was a bit of a bullying problem that occurred throughout my time in the district, but it was never due to issues of diversity in any form, but rather just bullying without a specific cause, and an administration that seemed to want to do little about it.
