The school district has been struggling for a long time. The high school and junior high especially was put back by very bad administration. Good teachers were put in situations where they had to leave and were replaced by inadequate teachers. Now the school district is just struggling to stay staffed in general, but is starting to get better with new administration, hopefully.
Southern Humboldt has a school board that knows nothing about school. It is run like a business instead of a haven for learning. Many classes do nothing, so as to entice people to stay. There are a handful of good teachers, but staff who care for the students are constantly targeted by the school board and administration. There is no separation between a teacher's personal life and their professional one. In the middle school, there are teachers preaching creationism and sobbing about being old maids.
I have been in this school district since I first started school in Kindergarten. I have been to most schools in the district and each one has a different mini culture. I also like that I am graduating high school with my kindergarten class. I also am enjoying all the new improvements happening at the school.
