South Point Local School District Reviews

My daughter had a decent experience at the school--she was able to transfer to a vocational school with no problem to pursue culinary arts. My concern was with my special needs son, who graduates this year. The "regular" school offered little to him--no life skills, no special olympics (other than end of year event), no work study, no extracurricular activities. This could be improved, in my opinion.
I love my teachers, the atmosphere and my education. The only thing I did not care for is the sports aspects and the lacking loyalty from the school.
It wasn’t the best and some of the teachers were very rude and expressed favoritism, but there was no real divide in the students. Everyone for the most part got along and helped each other when needed. The only really bad part was some the teachers not teaching or being unhelpful to students when they are struggling in a class. Everything else about the school was decent and for the most part, students were able to feel safe and supported by their peers and teachers.
My teachers are outstanding when it comes down to communicating with students. They do everything in their power to make it so that students are aware of opportunities. I would love to see the student become closer. We seem very different and have trouble understanding we are all human.
South Point is okay at academics, but if a teacher is in the wrong, they will be protected at any cost. Even at the expense of a student.
I have only been living in South Point for the past three years but overall my experience has been great. Last year the high school had received a new principal and he has really changed this school for the better. When I moved here in my 7th-grade year my mother had passed away. They had treated me very well and provided me with extra help to get caught up. They had also provided me with emotional support if needed.
South Point is a very personable school. Everyone knows everyone and it is great being able to confide in the staff when you need too.
My experience at South Point High School was very good. The staff here makes sure the students are getting the education they need. The teachers at South Point High School help prepare you for college. If there was one thing I would change about South Point would be helping us prepare for the ACT more.
People always say that high school will be some of the most fun times of your life. I don't believe that is the case. South Point is not a very close knit community so whenever we do things, there is very little involvement. Our school is trying very hard to fix that and bring people together like a community should be but we aren't there yet. For that reason I do not believe I had a very good high school experience. I feel one thing my high school is very good with compared to other public schools in Lawrence County is academics. South Point teachers and staff try their hardest to get everyone to pass. If you're struggling they help you one on one at lunch and always make time to help their students if they only ask. I feel for this reason my school has really helped me to learn and know the information they are teaching rather than just memorize it like other schools.
I have attended South Point schools since kindergarten and have participated not only in their great sports program every year, but also academics. Coaches, teachers, and administration all are very involved in the students study and competition. South Point Local School District makes sure no student gets left behind.
During my time in South Point Local Schools, I enjoyed the enthusiasm and school spirit, as well as the camaraderie between the community. I enjoyed the teachers, and felt all were successful in helping me learn. Most of all, I loved the band program. Without it, I would be on an unstable path in life, and would have no direction. If there would be anything I could change, it would be the administration, to help void the school system of corruption and politics, and focus on the future of our students.
I do not know if I can say I like a lot about South Point. One thing I would like to change about my school is the spirit and happiness that we lack in our students. My school has came to a point where the days are dull and students come to school more as a job. Then to come to school to have fun learning and socializing. I feel like the technology in our generation keeps us from socializing with each other. Causing students to be out of place or unconformable being them self. Students come to school with their head down and ready to go home and stuff their faces in their technology. I think if the happiness and socialization in school would change then it would also help stop bulling. Bulling comes from abused, mad, angry, mean, and broken children. If schools would make their students feel more welcomed and loved, then there could be a change.
I like that the teachers really seem to care if we learned or not. There were a variety of electives to chooses from such as forensics. I am in the marching band and band and trigonometry are my favorite subjects.
attending South Point schools K-12, I was able to grow very close to the school and community. The school, consisting of around 100 people per graduating class, was very close and friendly. Attending here, I never felt like i was not liked, however i feel even to today that they will forever be my family. The school system is fairly good. The teachers are very kind and understanding. The academics of the school are standard and do not prepare well for college.
A large part of the faculty has always welcomed helped me to the best of their abilities. I enjoyed spending time with them all. The school as a whole was okay, although there was a lack of fairness when it came to academics and sports.
I love the way you form a forever bond with your teachers and some students. They work with you and provides the best options for you future. The only thing I would like to see change here is the sports facilities and the treatment of girls sports teams.
This school has a real issue with bullying. The bullying is from the teachers as well as the students. South Point also caters to the "troubled" kids while running the "good" kids away. The school also hires people for coaches that do not have compassion for the sport but just wants a paycheck.
