Somerville Public Schools Reviews
It's a good school. The environment is nice and people there are usually good people. I love the administration and the secretaries. The only problem I have with the high school is the teachers. Some of them are fantastic and really prepared me for college, while others are so bad. Some teachers treat us like 5 year old kids, others take lesson plans from the internet, and some are just so stupid. I think if they replace some teachers, the school's education would be much better.
There are limited amount of electives to choose from and most are for the entire year. This restricts exploration of interests such as film, engineering, and the arts. The teachers are not innovative and flexible In their learning styles to accommodate students at various learning levels.
Somerville high school is a great school! The teachers are encouraging and effective. The extracurricular activities are plenty. In particular the music department is outstanding. My son is passionate about his musical experience in Somerville high school. He is in the marching band, the wind ensemble, the men's choir, the chamber choir, the a cappella choir and the pit orchestra. He loves it all!!! As a parent, I believe that because my child is in these activities he is developing into a very well rounded and motivated individual.
