Somerset Independent Schools Reviews
Overall, Somerset has the potential to grow as a school and become a school that the surrounding counties would like to attend. The academics are great and many of the teachers are inclusive to their students. The only downside to the school is the college and life readiness. They wait until many students senior year to start trying to prepare for college or life necessities which can cause difficulties in covering everything effectively and collectively. Safety can be considered an issue, but a mild issue. The guidance and principles are hard to talk to, seeming annoyed or rushed when you talk to them which can cause people to bottle up problems and concerns. The Diversity is also a problem. The small percentage of students in the minority and the number is getting smaller every day.
When I started high school I really loved it. The freedom we were given made me feel like I was being treated more like an adult than a child. I have loved the comrodery between my classmates and parents. Somerset teachers and their sports programs are excellent. The school is small enough that the teachers get to know you on a personal level. I have connected beyond that teacher/student relationship with several of my teachers. I would like to see more rules put in place concerning discipline. In public schools there are students that are undisciplined. This can cause those of us that are serious about getting a good education to be unfocused. It isn't fair to the teachers either. Having to stop teaching to handle a discipline problem takes away from those students that want to learn!
Love Somerset Independent Schools and all of the amazing traditions we have such as the homecoming parade and the Jumper Walk!
