Somers School District Reviews
Somers High School is just the definition of a school with good teachers, but possibly the worst resources to help you succeed. I have had a pleasant 4 years, but when it comes to applying to college the counseling center is less than helpful and it is often a struggle just to get an appointment. With a sub-par selection of electives and AP classes, I feel like I am at a disadvantage because of this. The sports teams are good and that provides an okay sense of school spirit, but other than that the students could care less about the school or each other. There is no diveristy amongst students and it is quite a culture shock to see any schools different from ours. Somers High School is perfect if you're simply looking for average.
Somers School District is very small. In high school, I feel they do not provide you the education you need to carry on to college. The District as a whole is not diverse at all, mostly white. Many students are involved in clubs and sports. This is where I feel Somers excels. Many student-athletes are very involved with their education. We have teachers that are very good or some that should not be teachers at all. The safety of our school is pretty good with state trooper residents on our campus. The food in the cafeteria is not good at all. They provide the students with pizza at least 3 days out of the week. There are no good healthy options. The Facilities in and out of the school could be upgraded.
Overall this is a good school that will give you a good education. There have been some issues with the administration and the food is below average, but there are also some pros. The school has been getting some new technology. People are gemerally friendly, teachers are generally great. This is a fairly conservative town, so making changes (in particular for the LGBTQ community) has been difficult. We could use more options for sports and more club involvement. We have AP classes which is great. Academics are challenging overall, but you can always get help.
