Sitka School District Reviews
Sitka high is very special in its own way. Living in such a small town a almost 10:1 experience is given, everyone seems to know everyone, which makes the overall experience more personal. The staff of all schools show appreciation and caring for students and it is not uncommon for parents to help out and be incorporated frequently into activities. The community of Sitka itself is very youth oriented as everyone goes to the basketball games etc. whether or not they know any players personally. Most teachers are blessings in kids lives and help make the overall experience better. The only problems I have seen are in the high school, as teachers get much harder on students, and grades come before morals. Though bullying has been very present in many other schools, there is little to none, or is shut down right away in Sitka. Overall Sitka and the school district are the optimal place to raise children as it is safe, and personal able!
Sitka has an amazing school district with many teachers who care about their students. It is a culturally diverse location with many Native Alaskans, Hmong, Vietnamese, and even some Chinese students! It truly is an amazing experience to come from a town so small yet inclusive town!
While I enjoyed my time with the Sitka School District, many of the teachers and major power-players seemed to have varying interests in what was best for the students and schools. For the majority of my time, there were constant budget cuts and students not receiving the proper attention they deserved. While there was a financial strain within the district, there were also many teachers and admin who were dedicated to making Sitka School District a better and more helpful institution.
