Sioux Falls School District Reviews
I have had some very great teachers in the past 12 years of my Sioux Falls School District experience. As I got to high school, some teachers really tested my personal opinion and downgraded me for it. That was one of the hardest things about high school for me. But Harvey Dunn and Patrick Henry have some phenomenal teachers! They are so great at working with individual students who are struggling and making sure they get the help they need.
The Sioux Falls School District has been wonderful because of staff and the students involved. However, I feel these schools could use more hands on learning, less standardized testing, and more allowance for career based high school. There were several times during my high school years where several hours felt wasted due to standardized testing when I could prove my learning through projects or presentation. Tests are essential, but as an AP student, spending 3 hours on a test that is basic math, science, and reading when my grades in my AP classes show that I am capable of all three seem redundant. Many students learn better with project based learning than studying worksheets, and it encourages active participation rather than passive scribbling.
I have been in the Sioux Falls School District for my whole public education. I am a senior in high school, and some things that I enjoyed from high school were my teachers, my friends, and the band at my school. I go to Lincoln and I'm in concert band. The music arts scene at Lincoln is definitely excellent, we have a lot of great musicians here and the music teachers are really wonderful. One thing about the school district that I think could use improvement is the school start time. School starts at 8:20 for all of the high schools, but I think that it should start a little later since students normally don't get enough sleep each night to warrant such early start times. Students have homework, work, extracurricular activities, and other commitments that make it so they are going to bed late and waking up early for school, thus not getting the amount of sleep that a teenager needs.
