Shawnee Mission School District Reviews
When I was at Shawnee Mission North, I had a good four years of high school. I was happy that there was still a music and art program, even if it seemed as if sports took so much more of an importance there (which it did). Some administrators were not great though - when a group of students tried to lead a walkout raising awareness for school shootings, the administration promptly swept in and sensored all of the speeches they were going to give, forcing the students to review it with them first - a clear violation of the freedom of speech. When students chose to stay outside and protest instead of going back inside, some administrators were yelling at the students, telling them to get inside. This was just during my four years there. Now the district has introduced a three-year plan for teachers' pay that is absolutely unfair to the teachers - they would have no say in their job or wages whatsoever.
At Shawnee Mission South, all are one and one are all. In a school placed in central Johnson County, we represent a wide range of diversity in socioeconomic background, race, religion, sexual orientation, and much more. I firmly believe that Shawnee Mission South is a leader in changing the stereotypes of those different from the majority, in our wide acceptance of those who may seem different to us. As a student body, we are one singularity that is made up of many different parts and comes together to celebrate a common goal. We come together to mourn the loss of a student, we shake stadiums for our athletic teams, and we put our all into everything that we do, from sports and theatre to academics and college readiness. Teachers and administrators that truly care about their students' success will work tirelessly to ensure that our education is second to none, reaffirming that there is Nothing Greater than a Raider.
They need to have more control overall! Seems that they are too afraid of getting sued, the schools and teachers are managed by the parents. If the parents want to have control they can do home school, but if they want their kids to go to school, they need to let the teachers take care of the kids. They are too concern about hurt the kid's feelings and they are not preparing them for real life, life is thought, competitive, and they are not teaching that,
