SAHS provides a good, foundational education. The majority of teachers educate well, as long as the student is willing to learn. The biggest factor that brings down SAHS is the treatment towards mental health needs, and it’s become especially prevalent this past year with COVID-19. Students have been performing statistically worse than previous years, and it’s worrying to see some teachers continue to push away the learners that are at home. Online students feel overwhelmed this year, and many teachers have continued to put the online students at a disadvantage, whether that means extra credit opportunities for only in-person learners or providing a shorter lecture for online learners, but expecting them to perform as good as in-person learners on tests.
For our area, Selinsgrove Area High School District is a very good school to be enrolled in. They offer a variety of courses to take. They also have a good amount of clubs. One flaw is that there is a lot of drama issues that are brought to the schools attention that they do little to nothing to help the situation. Of course there are some that they do address. I do realize that not every issue can be solved because there are other larger priorities.
I really enjoyed my time at Selinsgrove. They offered many different classes in different areas of education that we could take to help us learn more about our potential majors in college. For example, I took AP psychology my junior year which made me realize that I want to be a clinical psychologist. They also provided us with many opportunities to further our education such as the ACE program with Bloomsburg, Sun Tech, and many chances to earn college credits with other schools. They prepares us well for college and for life by requiring all students to take Career prep and personal finance. Not only did the teachers and faculty give us the proper education to help us learn and further our education but they also put in a lot of effort to make our sport teams and band very successful. Overall I believe that Selinsgrove is one of the best school districts to be involved in because of their commitment to the students education and future careers.
