The U-46 community is superb. Despite the well known rivalries among the schools, everyone is very close. Like many districts, most students have known each other since elementary school, and this has provided connections for students between schools. The interactions between students and the school board is also very good, they often ask for student responses and comments. The only concern is the divide in the income of students among the various schools. The divide is geographical. Many students of schools in one area of the district require more financial support than those of other schools. It is not a subtle difference, it can be seen in the quality of facilities and housing around the specific schools.

U-46 provides an educational experience with all the components that are necessary for success. All the classes and functions of the schools allow students to reach their goals, but only if they're driven to get there. What seems to prevent U-46 from giving students extra encouragement is that the district is too large to delegate resources for adequate student support. For example, I didn't even know that my high school had social workers until the end of my second year. Even so, my school only has three social workers, and we have about 2,700 students. Our district is the second largest in Illinois, with 40 elementary schools, eight middle schools, and five high schools. If the district wasn't so massive, we'd be able to put more focus on finding ways to give students extra support.
School District U-46 is very supportive and teamwork-orientated. The staff strives to encourage their students to try their best and make the most of the opportunities they are faced with. Also, this district incorporates everyone- no matter what race, gender, etc.- to get involved in their schools. However, I believe School District U-46 could improve their way of teaching. By this I mean instead of teaching education one way, they should make it so every student can learn the same material in numerous ways to improve their learning abilities. Every student is unique and learns things differently. Therefore, if U-46 spends the time and dedication to contemplate the possibility of growing success among all students, less frustration and more motivation will result.
