I’ve gone to Scarborough Public Schools since kindergarten and every year has been a little bit different. While overall I’ve enjoyed school, I’ve obviously had my ups and downs. Wentworth was awful for me, everything about those three years was awful. But, unlike most students, 7th and 8th grade at the middle school were great! K-2 at Eight Corners was also amazing, I had a lot of friends, an amazing teacher, and I felt so loved and supported by the people around me. High school has been pretty good! I’ve had my own personal ups and downs but Scarborough High School has been consistently there for me and I’ve always felt like I have a place, which I know is not true for a lot of students. Props to the theatre company, Oak Hill Players and One Acts. The town of Scarborough should support these programs for years to come since they host such a family environment for all of their participants!
First and foremost, I think that Scarborough has amazing teachers, who support every student and are readily available so that students can succeed. At every level of school, there are great resources from helping students become proficient in English to making sure that they feel comfortable when applying to college. In the high school, there are many clubs and sports that cater to a wide variety of interests, and the only thing I would recommend changing is having more clubs at the lower school levels. The Scarborough School District is also one that is very successful and ambitious with academics, sports, and the arts, which is something that I am very happy about. I also think that the school has a great culture that is very inclusive to all students and students have a sense of pride associated to school. The Scarborough School District also emphasizes a sense of community and the importance of helping those around you, which is something that I very much believe in.
Scarborough high school helps students get prepare for college. Most teachers won't accept late work. Although they will work with you as long as you seek help. The teacher are the perfect balance of tough and flexible. Scarborough high also makes their students do midterms and finals. Some schools around the area don't do that. This is helpful because it teaches student organization and studying skills. One thing Scarborough High needs to work on is the gap between level 3(college prep) and level 4(honors) classes. In my opinion level 3 science are way to easy but level 4 is too hard. Instead of failing or passing by the skin of my teeth, I decided to be bored and succeeding in level 3. I wish I could have been in level for chemistry because I would have been able to learn more about the subject.
