I loved Saugerties Central School District because it felt so safe. The teachers were always willing to help you no matter what it was. They helped you through school and personal issues. I still talk to some of my high school teachers through e-mail because I am in college right now, studying to become an English teacher. I made so many friends throughout my 13 years in Saugerties, I still talk to my closest friends every day. Saugerties Central School District gave me so many opportunities that I am so grateful for. I never once felt alone while going to school.
I had a good experience in Saugerties High School. Most of my teachers were excited to have me on the first day because of my focused and determined attitude toward all of my classes. With each class I took, I left the reputation of being a smart, hard worker. I became well known among the teachers. I felt like most of the teachers were fair and did not show favoritism between myself and other classmates. I had an amazing and helpful guidance counselor. What I would like to see more college preparing classes. We had a computer video production course for sophomore through senior year and a very good Spanish program. We had plenty of AP courses. I would have liked to have taken a three- or four-year engineering program, which we did not have, but friends from other schools did. Also, I would have liked the early admissions program to be broadcasted more. I had to research it and ask my guidance counselor about it in order to be admitted into it.
I like the fact that Saugerties is a small district so every student is well known by each teacher. The class variety offered at Saugerties is extremely limiting to students who have interest in the arts or music. Also, if a student doesn't exceed the average in 7th grade, their opportunities to take Honors and A.P. classes is not present. I understand how hard the teachers work for their students and care for them, but there is extreme drama and running around for students who have difficulties at home. I got what I needed from Saugerties because I worked hard and did the best I could by keeping focused on college and for my future. Out of all small towns, I think Saugerties did its best to make it a safe place for all.
