My experience in the San Mateo Union High School District has honestly been good for the past four years of my high school journey. From Friday Night football games to winning a photography award, I have enjoyed my time here for the most part. Although my school, Burlingame High, has proved very "clicky" and has many students who feel entitled, i have managed to make life long friends while lossing previous best friend along the way due to the culture of the school. From my perspective, the majority of the girls at Burligame can be very hurtful and disregarding their peers. I would love to see more school spirit, similar to San Mateo High School itself. Another thing I would like to see change is the inequality within female and male athletics. What I have observed my years here, Boys football receives the majority of the athletic funding and recently received all-new Nike gear. As a female athlete, I would love to see some changes within the athletics here in the district.

I go to Hillsdale which is a school in the SMUHSD. Hillsdale emphasizes on small learning communities, which have a larger teacher to student ratio, which allows for each student to receive the help they need. We also take pride in the diversity of our campus: racially, ability level, and sexuality. The majority of the teachers are extremely qualified and come up with creative curriculum for their students.
I am a senior who is going to graduate from Burlingame High School and my overall experience over the past years is very good. What I like about my school are the different sports and clubs that allow students to try out these new fields and possibly find an area of interest. An example of this was when I joined the robotics club, learning through hands-on experience has enabled me to develop a passion for STEM and pursue a career in engineering.

Something that I think needs improvement is the lunch offered at school. I would prefer less processed food and more healthy options.
