I have attended all four of the SHUSD schools (primary-high school). The district is very lucky to be well-funded, and this is clearly exhibited in each of the schools. Each student is provided a laptop and some classes even have personal iPads available for their students. Each school has many extracurricular opportunities and fieldtrips that allow students to create stronger bonds with their peers. There are caring adults that support the students who require special education, and the high school's athletic facilities are state-of-the-art. On the downside, even though there is an advanced math course in the middle school, teachers didn't challenge the students that were ahead of their classmates very often. Additionally, the high school does not offer any Honors or AP courses to freshmen, nor are they given the opportunity to take the PSAT. Overall, SHUSD offers a safe and supportive learning environment that is ideal for preparing students for college and their future careers.
I love Saint Helena High because of the very open-minded and inclusive mindset. The counselors are VERY interactive with the student body and are heavily focused on getting you on your college and/or career path as effectively as possible. There is a lot of school spirit, there were consistent rallies (pre-COVID times), and even during this difficult pandemic the school district still attempts to connect students through fun spirit weeks and seasonal events. The school itself and the individual teachers have a zero-tolerance policy for any hate speech, racism, homophobia, ableism, etc., and are swift to take action when a situation arises. The campus itself is just absolutely gorgeous, very clean, and pristine at all times. Lastly, the staff is amazing and incredibly friendly, the principal knows and often greets students by name, and is a lot of fun.
I attended Robert Louis Stevenson Middle School and St. Helena High School. The community in St. Helena is a wonderful place for children to grow up. The schools are overall great, very new buildings, and the teachers for the most part are amazing. The only downfall is some administration issues.
