In just Oakland High School, its a very academically diverse environment. There are many opportunities in the forms of clubs, sports, and programs for the students.
Overall, its a great place to go, but there can be a lack of communication between teachers and students. This lack of communication is what has caused me to find myself in a few situations that could have been easily avoided such as missing projects and grades, should the teacher have had those easily accessible or been available to talk to at the start or end of class.

As an alumnus of schools in Rutherford county, I hope these schools can continue with their strengths and improve their weaknesses for the children of the future. Within Rutherford County Schools, I attended their middle and high schools. Although both schools are on different scales, I noticed that they shared similar weak points and strengths. At my time at these Schools, I noticed their are a handful of teachers that truly care about their students and involve interesting methods into their lessons to engage their students. As a student I truly appreciated these teachers. However, there were also moments when the staff would treat the students without compassion as well. Although I understand misbehaving students require consequences, I would have appreciated it if the whole student body would not have to face these due to there classmates. I also would like to see teachers to understand their students more as well, as many might be experiencing difficulties outside of school.
I can’t say enough about this school. Middle school is hard enough without a safety net of caring teachers and administrators, which I can say I witnessed firsthand while helping a family member navigate through to high school. First, the folks at Oakland Middle showed genuine concern to the child in question (and to all involved) and then brought everyone in for a friendly chat. Roughly five faculty members were at that first meeting. They also performed an assessment so thorough I am sure no private school could do or would do. I know this because I came up through private school. Afterwards the school’s admin team put in place a plan that will follow this child through to high school to ensure he does not fall through the cracks and let me say this plan is REALLY well thought out. I didn’t even know public schools like this existed. Bravo.
