I went to a Rowan-Salisbury School when I was in high school, did not learn much even while making As, and was certainly not prepared for college. I was hesitant for my child to attend a school in this same school district, but am so pleased that things have changed academically. She is in Honors and AP courses and they are tough! She is learning how to think critically in order to navigate difficult subject matter. I certainly believe she will be prepared for whatever challenges she meets after high school.
Rowan Salisbury School System has been less than ideal to me over my years. They have had bad ideas and poor execution of ideas. Next year, they plan on downgrading from every student having a laptop to every student having an iPad. This will make typing essays and accessing different websites ectremely difficult. I went to North Carolina's Governor's School West, and met tons of people from different counties that did NOT have to pay the $500 tuition because their school system covered it. I also met a lot of people with much harder courses available to them. Courses I couldn't take in RSS unless it was online.
I went through school from elementary to high school through the Rowan-Salisbury School system, and when I went through everything was good and felt safe. Now all the schools are not as safe, I believe that is just the way that the world is developing unfortunately. I really enjoyed all the teachers I had in high school.
